Excellent base for a family ski holiday
The rooms were spacious, modern and very well maintained. Everything has been well thought through and designed with the skiing family in mind. There was ample storage and drying space which is very important when skiing with young children. The bathroom had a double sink and an excellent bath/shower unit with a separate WC. Bath robes were also provided.
The room also had a small fridge and separate sink where you could make tea and coffee (although no kettle and cups etc were provided) The rooms had plenty of living space and the TV had English channels and a DVD player The ski room was spacious and lead out onto a pathway linked to the Arpette blue run. This enabled easy access in the morning but coming back was a little hard due to the incline (think 50m slightly uphill towing your kids – not ideal but not exactly a major problem). Ski lockers all had heated boot warmers.
The spa was fantastic after a day on the slopes. Included are a heated indoor pool and indoor hot-tub, 2 outdoor hot-tubs, 2 saunas and a massive steam room. The hotel also has a physiotherapist in situ providing both sports treatments and more relaxing massages etc.
Meals were served in the modern restaurant with mountain views. Breakfast was buffet style with a hot cooked option each day which was waiter served. The table d’hôte evening meals were excellent with a great choice and range of dishes through the week. The wine wasn’t exactly premier cru but was drinkable and in good supply. Pre dinner canapés and drinks were served in the bar.
Very little to complain about
Excellent all round, we have a 3 year old girl and the staff were wonderful with her. She enjoyed herself very much. The room was fantastic and its the attention to detail that makes this hotel the best all round experience like soundproof walls and doors with soft shutting doors, underfloor heating and a whole wealth of other luxury appointments made with comfort and luxury in mind.
The facilities like two outside hot tubs, swimming pool inside hot tub, steam room the list goes on, makes for a very enjoyable stay for both adults and children.
Although we arrived at 1 am late, the staff were waiting in numbers to welcome us to a specially put on meal and throughout the stay they were polite and professional. We have been been for four years running and whilst there are always going to be small niggles with any hotel unless you pay 5k for the holiday, this hotel offers fantastic value for money. On occasion when I did have a quibble it was sorted.
The food is very good for the price with a bottle of wine each evening included. Breakfast is also good but you sometimes have to wait for service. Well situated with access to the slopes directly, you have the town on your doorstep and excellent views. we are very excited each year to return and have booked again. The rooms are spacious and contemporary, very comfortable with thick luxury cotton sheets that are changed daily. this 3 year old luxury hotel has a great deal to offer those with children.
Excellent hotel & Esprit summer activity holiday
The Esprit staff team at Deux Domaines (summer 2010) were brilliant throughout our one week activity holiday. Management, catering, childcare, activities organised for a wide age range of children/teenagers, room cleaning and help in all aspects of our holiday - consistently good.
Our son (9 years old) enjoyed 4 days of adventure with similar aged children. Organised activities included archery, circus skills and rock climbing. At other times a range of art, singing, craft, quizzes etc kept youngsters busy and entertained. His parents were free on those days to do different mountain walks, white water rafting on the Isere and the entertaining (and tough) mini golf course. Mountain biking, forest adventure park, parapenting and lots of other options in and around La Plagne.
When we fancied relaxing, the hotel swimming pool, sauna, steam room and hot tubs were welcome. The wellness centre was similar to a good health club in UK, although no fitness equipment on offer. Perhaps some simple training/aerobic equipment would be a benefit, especially for any wet days? There seemed to be enough space to fit that in.
The hotel is bright, contemporary, unfussy - obviously built and fitted to a high quality standard. The location, 5 minutes walk from the centre of Belle Plagne, is fine. Good mountain views and handy for both Belle Plagne and Bellecote. Free buses and lifts link to the other La Plagne satellite villages. Essentially a purpose built winter resort - architecture tends towards 'brutalist' style. Belle Plagne area is a bit more pleasing on the eye than it's neighbours, including Deux Domaines itself.
Other places within easy driving distance include Val D'Isere, Bourg St Maurice and Albertville. Courmayeur and the Aosta valley in Italy is reachable for a day trip, with plenty of hairpin bends along the way. I can imagine this hotel is a good base for snow sports. Good access to whole Paradiski area, as it's not too far from the impressive Vanoise Express cable car that links to Les Arcs to La Plagne.
Overall, a great summer holiday enjoyed and big thanks to the hotel staff.
